Odd-size baggage

In many cases it is possible to take odd-size baggage, such as sport equipment, medical items and prams on your journey with you. In view of the limited number of special luggage items allowed per flight, you should report the items to your travel agent or airline at the time of booking or well in advance of departure (72 hours), otherwise the transport is not guaranteed. Your travel agent or airline can also inform you about possible costs or particular details such as packaging and maximum permitted dimensions.

Active trip
If you have booked an active trip, for example a winter sports, golf, diving, surfing or cycling holiday, then you can naturally take extra baggage that you will need during your trip, such as skis, golf bag, diving equipment, fishing rod, surfboard, or a bike with you on the aircraft. For a number of airlines this is free of charge, provided you keep within the maximum weight. In some cases an extra fee is charged.

Prevent unpleasant surprises at check-in by reserving with your travel agency or airline well in advance of departure. They can inform you about possible costs or specifications - for example, a bike must be transported in a special box and a fishing rod in a case.

We also advise you to inquire about the maximum permitted length that you need to keep in mind when transporting, for example, a hang-glider or a surfboard and mast.

Travelling with children
For buggies, prams and 'MaxiCosies', various rules apply, depending on the airline. We advise you to consult the conditions on your ticket and/or contact the airline with whom you are flying. Often it is possible to take foldable buggies and prams, up to a weight of 5kg, with you to the departure gate, where they will be taken to put into the hold. Those above this weight will have already been checked in and taken directly to the aircraft.

Medical items
Medical items such as walking-frames and crutches, up to 15 kg, are usually transported free of charge. If this weight is exceeded, a fee is charged by some airlines, at the excess baggage rate of 5 euro per kg per single journey. Whilst booking and on checking in, passengers with mobility limitations should indicate whether they are able to walk unaided and manage the stairs. If you are travelling with a wheelchair and/or require accompanying from the check-in desk to the aircraft and from the aircraft to the arrivals hall on reaching your destination, we advise you to inform your airline well in advance. Of course, you may take your own folding wheelchair (without battery) with you on your journey free of charge.

Please note: there are a limited number of seats available per flight for passengers who wish to make use of this facility so you should inform the airline well in advance. You are also kindly requested to check in, in good time in order that arrangements may be made for your wheelchair.

For the transportation of electric wheelchairs, certain restrictions apply. Contact your airline in advance to book in your electric wheelchair and to enquire about any extra charges entailed. You will need to indicate whether your wheelchair has a wet or a dry battery and give its dimensions. On the basis of this information you will be advised on the way in which the wheelchair should be packed. Foldable electric wheelchairs should be handed in at the check-in desk and can be picked up at the baggage reclaim after your flight.

Wheelchairs with wet batteries and scootmobiles are only accepted if packed in a special 'battery box' which has been approved by the airline and/or the ground handlers. In some cases, costs are involved. You are kindly requested to contact your airline company in good time, in order to make your wishes known.
