How does it work?

Checking-in

Rotterdam Airport prides itself in its short check-in/check-out times. The check-in desks are open from 2 hours before the departure time of your flight. For scheduled flights with CityJet Airlines you can check-in till 20 minutes before departure. However we advise you to arrive at the airport in good time. For holiday flights and scheduled flights with transavia.com you are requested to check in no later than one and a half hours before the scheduled departure time. For these flights, passengers who report to the desk later than 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time are not accepted.

In order to check in, you must report to the check-in desk of the airline with which you are flying, where you will be asked to show a valid identity document (passport or European identity card) and of course, your ticket. Nowadays, you usually do not receive a paper ticket on booking, but receive only a booking confirmation, in most cases via e-mail. This confirmation, together with your valid ID document, is sufficient to check in. You will see the number of the check-in desk for your flight on the screens in the transit hall.

At the check-in desk, you will be given a boarding card and your hold baggage will be weighed and provided with a baggage label. The hold baggage will then be directed via a conveyor belt, to scanning equipment where a scan check will be carried out to check for forbidden objects and dangerous and explosive materials. The scanning process cannot damage your camera, photo films, GSM or other equipment. After the security control, your baggage will be loaded into the aircraft. More information concerning permitted weights and dimensions of your baggage can be obtained by referring to the heading 'Baggage'. There are certain items and materials that you may not take with you in your hold baggage. For more information, look under the heading 'Safety'.

Checking in at home
Transavia.com offers the possibility of checking in online, choosing your seat and even printing out your boarding card. Passengers with only hand luggage can directly make their way to the gate with their boarding card. You will find more information under 'Internet Check-in'.

Security control
On presentation of your boarding card, you can enter the departure hall via the security control. You will pass through the security gateways where any metal objects you may be carrying are monitored. Your hand luggage will also be scanned. This X-ray equipment is of course safe for you, your camera, photo films, GSM, computer disks, laptops and other equipment.

Do not forget to pick up your personal belongings again when entering the departure hall. When packing your hand luggage, bear in mind that it must meet certain requirements as regards dimensions and weight, and that specific items and materials are not permitted to be transported in hand luggage.

Boarding and passport control
You can make use of the catering and shopping facilities in the departure hall prior to boarding the plane. Smoking is only permitted in the designated areas of the café/restaurant. An announcement will be made when your flight is ready for boarding, and of course, details will be displayed on the screens. The screens in the transit hall, departure hall, arrivals hall and grand café/restaurant Horizon also give flight information. If your flight destination is in a 'non-Schengen' country your passport will be checked by the Dutch Border Police, before you go aboard. Schengen countries are the Benelux, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Austria, Greece, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Denmark.

At Rotterdam Airport, passengers are led from the gate to the plane by bus or on foot. Disabled passengers are boarded either first or last by the ground personnel, if necessary with the help of a special lift. If you wish to make use of this service, you should state this when booking.

When aboard the aircraft, you should switch off your mobile phone and note that the use of electronic equipment is limited.

We wish you a pleasant flight!
