Payment abroad
A safe and easy way to pay for things when you are abroad is to use your pincard or creditcard. No extra charge is made for direct payments with a creditcard or pincard for purchasing within the EU. The charge for cash withdrawals with your giro or europas at banks and/or automatic cash machines in the EU countries, has recently been reduced considerably, if not done away with completely (depending on your bank). Outside the Euro countries, any cards on which there is the Maestro logo can be used for payments and withdrawals.
For making reservations and for hiring cars, among other things, you are advised to use a creditcard, in which case, you are often not required to pay a deposit.
The travellers cheque remains a safe means of payment which is accepted worldwide.
Before travelling abroad, we advise you to contact your bank to obtain the (emergency)telephone numbers required, should you need to block your payment cards in the case of loss or theft. It is also advisable, before departure, to read the conditions governing your payment card in order to check that you will be able to use it abroad.
