Disability
 | Rotterdam Airport offers invalids and disabled passengers all the facilities they require in order to travel in comfort. |
The most important provision is the level floor surface. Automatic doors, elevators, ramped kerbs, disabled parking places and suitably-adapted toilets make Rotterdam Airport easily accessible to those with disabilities.
Toilets
The disabled toilets are located in the departure hall and the central hall of the terminal building and, in the interests of hygiene, they are provided with a coded lock. The member of staff on duty at the information/service desk will gladly inform you of the code.
Parking
On all parking area's we have special parking spaces reserved for disabled passengers. Please put your disability card in sight behind the windscreen of your car. When all the parking spaces for disabled passengers on the short-term parking area P2 are occupied, it is also possible to park on a common parking space. On showing a disability card, together with the car-park entry card and flight ticket (after returning from your trip), the fee will be calculated at the economical long-term rate.
Wheelchairs
If required, wheelchairs are available for use at the airport and special lifts can be used for boarding and disembarking from the aircraft. Of course, you can take your own folding wheelchair (without battery) free of charge. We advise you to inform your travel agent or airline well in advance that you wish to make use of this facility, as there are a limited number of seats available per flight for passengers who wish to do so. You are kindly requested to check-in in good time so that arrangements can be made for your wheelchair.
If your flight was booked via the website transavia.com, please telephone via the Transavia Call Center » to make your wishes known.
NB. Transavia and most other airlines do not accept wheelchairs or 'scootmobiles' with wet batteries.
Medical items
Medical items such as walking-frames and crutches, up to 15 kg, are usually transported free of charge. If this weight is exceeded, a fee is charged at the excess baggage rate of 5 euro per kg per single journey. Guide dogs for the blind are usually accepted free of charge. We advise you to contact your travel agent or airline in advance concerning this matter.
Air travel during pregnancy
Health and safety are the top priorities when it comes to travelling by air during pregnancy. Particularly in the last phase of pregnancy, it is obviously wise to be extra cautious. We advise you to contact your airline regarding the company's specific rules concerning pregnancy and flying. It is also advisable to consult your midwife, doctor or gynaecologist before booking your flight. In many cases a medical statement from one of these authorities is compulsory, and you may be required to sign an indemnity form in which it is stated that the airline cannot be held responsible for any complications that may occur during the journey.
Medicine
If you regularly take medicine, it is useful to ask your doctor for a medical passport by means of which you can prove that the medicine you are carrying is for your own use. This avoids the possibility of your medicine being mistaken for drugs.
