Press release: After a 10-year absence, transavia.com is flying to London Gatwick again
Publication Date: 25-09-2009 Schiphol, 21 September 2009 - On 2 November 2009, transavia.com will start flying from Rotterdam Airport to London Gatwick. These flights will replace the low-cost low-fare airline's scheduled services from Rotterdam to London Luton that will be discontinued on 1 November. In 1986, London Gatwick was the first destination for scheduled services provided by what was then Transavia Airlines. transavia.com is pleased to be flying to this airport again after a 10-year absence.
transavia.com has wanted to fly to Gatwick Airport for years. The problem was that the landing rights - or slots - were never available at the right times: mornings and evenings. Now, however, they are. Another reason for switching to Gatwick was that London Luton failed to live up to its expectations. That's why we've decided to fly to Gatwick instead of Luton. London Gatwick is a large, well-known airport located south of London and also near a concentration of London's business community. The Gatwick Express ensures efficient transport to and from the airport. This rapid train connection makes the centre of London easily accessible without any transfers. With its Rotterdam-London Gatwick service, transavia.com thinks it can do a good job of serving not only its business passengers but also its leisure passengers. The schedule for the new connection is aimed at the business market but should also attract city trippers. Two flights, scheduled according to the morning and evening business flight principle, will be made on workdays and one flight on weekend days. Passengers who have already booked a flight to London Luton for after 1 November will be contacted and given the option of rebooking their flight or cancelling it and getting a refund. Sales for this new route will start today, Tuesday, 22 September, through http://www.transavia.com/, the transavia.com call centre, travel agents, tour operators and the transavia.com ticket counters.
